Conflux #1 - Collage

Hello my fine friends,

I just wanted to take a minute to give you a heads up on a bottled sour (?)  that we have right now that isn't on the menu, yet...

Deschutes / Hair of the Dog Collaboration: Collage (Conflux #1)
This beer is... well, it's... Wow.  Okay, let's start with the basics.  This is the Conflux  #1.  You might remember the Conflux  #2, interestingly released while Conflux #1 was still aging in it's wooden casky goodness, as a white IPA collaboration with Boulevard that came out last year.  We had it on draft and it was delicious! Collage is a blend of some of the best beers that either brewery has to offer.  From Deschutes we have the Stoic (11% ABV) Quad aged in rye whiskey and selected wine casks, and the Dissident (10.5% ABV) Sour aged in Pinot and Cabernet barrels.  Is your mouth watering already?  Just wait....  Then, add from Hair of the Dog the amazing American Golden Strong Ale that is Fred (10% ABV) made with aromatic malts and 10 different kinds of hops and Adam (10% ABV), the very first beer that Hair of the Dog produced, a resurrected style of German brewing called an Old Ale, which is dark and chocolatey, rich and robust.  Blend all four of these amazing stand-alone beers together, with a very generous amount of cask aging, (Rye Whiskey, Cognac, Sherry, Pinot Noir, Bourbon, new American Oak, and new Oregon Oak) and you have... Voila!  A beer that is so full of flavor and complexity that I can't really accurately describe it to you.  It must be experienced.  I opened a bottle and tasted it with a few of our beer geekier regulars at the bar and we were all kind of stunned into silence for a moment. Which, if you know beer geeks, is kind of an usual state to be in when there is a new beer in their glass.
This was only released in 12oz bottles and we only received one case AND it's pricey at $12 a bottle.  Let me just assure you, worth it!  Worth IT!  WORTH IT!  And if you can find one, age it for another couple of years.  This one is up for the long haul.

On a side note, I will ALWAYS have a soft spot in my heart for Hair of the Dog.  When we first opened the Duck Island in 1996 you couldn't import beers into Washington State that were over 10%, so they used to drive up kegs of Adam and Fred rum-runner style and we were able to tap them on the sly and bring these amazing beers to Seattlites so they could enjoy how awesome they are on draft.

Draft list 7/2

Thanks taplister!  Here's what we got right now!!!
