Port Brewing Hop 15

The latest wunder-draft on at the Duck is Port Brewing's Hop 15.  This is an Imperial/Double IPA with an ABV of 9.4%.  This hoppiest of hoppys boasts 15 barrels of hops, each one different, added each hour during the brewing process.  The expense and scarcity of certain hops have left them brewing this beer in small batches with limited release.  We only have a 6'er, so come down soon to try before it's gone.

Jackie's Picks

Stone/The Bruery/Elysian-Citrueille
Although this collaboration between some of the best brewers on the West coast produced a beer that is categorized as a pumpkin/fruit beer, this is no pumpkin pie beer.  You won’t find any nutmeg, cloves or cinnamon.  What you will find in the La Citrueille is an amber ale brewed with pumpkins, yams, rye, toasted fenugreek, birch bark, and lemon verbena. The taste starts with citrus and herbal notes, but then a very smooth roasted malt character comes into play. The yam and pumpkin make their appearance on the finish, with some spiciness and trace maple notes from the toasted fenugreek, combining with hints of birch.
5% ABV / 47 IBU

New Belgium Lips of Faith-Tart Lychee
From the website:
According to Lauren, the imaginator of this pucker-pleasing ale, Lychee Fruit is so insanely sweet and flavorful you almost can’t stand it alone. Sour to the rescue! The combination of our barrel-aged sour beer, Lychee Fruit puree, and cinnamon sticks pours a frothy head of tart perfection.
Just the facts Ma'am...
ABV - 8.5%!!!
IBU - 20
Hops - Target
Malts - Pale, Malted Wheat, Caramel-80, Carapils, Oats
OG - 20
TG - 3

Deschutes-Abyss Stout
A deep, dark Imperial Stout, The Abyss has almost immeasurable depth and complexity. Hints of molasses, licorice and other alluring flavors make it something not just to quaff, but contemplate. Abyss is an appropriate name, since the beer is viscous and so dark it allows no light to penatrate it’s dark body.  33% of the beer is aged in french oak barrels and oak bourbon barrels.  This beer is extremely rich and complex in taste, with hints of licorice playing over smooth oaken tones.
11% ABV

4 Seasons Substitute Draft

I was hoping... hoping that the alcohol content on the Pumking was going to carry it through the last 8 months, but alas...  it didn't hold up as well as I wanted...  Sad.
But, I had another beer ready to sub-in, waiting to be tagged into the draft line-up.
Dah dah tah dah...  Introducing for a one time only appearance....

Stone/The Bruery/Elysian-Citrueille

This beer has a lot going on and has held up well over the last few months.  You'll probably never see this beer again.  Come down and try a pint.

The 4 Seasons Beer Descriptions

Our 4 seasons event starts today and runs through the weekend.

The 4 Seasons

Spring:
Snoqualmie Falls-Spring Fever Grand Cru
Orange hues, rich malt flavors, spicy coriander overtones and fruity, tropical aromas make this one beautiful beer for fans of Belgian styles.
Spring Fever is crafted from the finest Two-Row,
Munich,
Carastan and Belgian Aromatic malts,
Columbus and Czech
Saaz hops, spiced with coriander and fermented with
authentic Belgian ale yeast.
7.0% ABV / 32 IBU
Stillwater-Of Love and Regret Saison
Stillwater Brewer Brian Strumke teamed up with Belgium Brewmaster Jef Goetelen to craft an authentic Belgian version of a liquid interpretation of the Spring season. The base is German barley & wheat, with a touch of Belgian aromatic; accented with grassy hops and an array of spring botanicals (heather, chamomile, lavender, & dandelion). Like a fresh meadow in spring.
7.2% ABV
Summer:
Anderson Valley-Summer Solstice
Summer Solstice Seasonal Ale is not just your average summer seasonal. This unique copper colored ale is smooth, malty, and lightly sweet, with a delicate hint of spice for that oh-so-drinkable, extra velvety flavor.  Summer Solstice Seasonal Ale is never sterile filtered nor heat pasteurized.
5% ABV / 4 IBU
Unibrou-Raftman
This Belgian-style peat-smoked whiskey malt ale was first produced by Unibrou in 1995 and only just last year become available to the United States in very limited quantities.  The nose is full of a complex blend of smoke, apples, caramel, and whisky malt and the flavor is heavy (or heavenly) on the smoked malt whisky with a low acidity masked by a caramelized apple flavor with a finishing taste of fine belgian yeast.
5.5% ABV / 15.5 IBU

Autumn:
Southern Tier-Pumpking
STYLE: Imperial Pumpkin Ale
BREWED SINCE: 2007
FERMENTATION: Ale yeast, two types of malt, two types of hops and pumpkin
COLOR: Deep copper
NOSE: Pumpkin, pie spices, buttery crust, vanilla, roasted pecans
FLAVOR: Malty sweetness, vanilla, clove, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and piecrust
ABV: 8.6%
Kostritzer-Oktoberfest
This traditional German Oktoberfest/Marzen style beer is a wonderful representative of the category.  The taste is crisp with a creamy back, moderate body with a stable malty mouth feel.  Fresh hoppiness with a modest but ample bitterness. Hop twang lasts with an herbal leafy flavor underneath the graininess.
5.6% ABV

Winter:
Delirium: Noel
This beer pours a beautiful chestnut amber color with a fine, white, creamy foam that laces the glass. The aroma is a complex entity of caramel malt, fruit, spices and the sweetness of the alcohol. There is a strong presence of alcohol in the taste, which is very spicy, slightly bitter. The aftertaste is sweet, spicy and with a booziness that lingers.
10% ABV
Deschutes: Abyss Stout
A deep, dark Imperial Stout, The Abyss has almost immeasurable depth and complexity. Hints of molasses, licorice and other alluring flavors make it something not just to quaff, but contemplate. Abyss is an appropriate name, since the beer is viscous and so dark it allows no light to penatrate it’s dark body.  33% of the beer is aged in french oak barrels and oak bourbon barrels.  This beer is extremely rich and complex in taste, with hints of licorice playing over smooth oaken tones.

John McCoy... Movin' On Up!

Our beloved bartender, John McCoy, has decided that he needs to get a REAL job (whatever, sheesh!) and is moving on to bigger and better things.  Quitter!

Actually, we at the Duck Island and adjoining Beth's Cafe, are so proud of John, who is leaving us to be the new field coordinator (Snohomish county) for Jay Inslee's reelection campaign.  As sad as we are to see him leave, we are excited to see him pursuing his life's dream and know that he is on the way to doing great things and making a big difference in this world.  We love you, John!  Congratulations!

Come visit John during the next week and a half.  His schedule is M, W, and Thurs starting at 8pm.  His last day is Sausagefest on Thurs 17th.  Offer him your congratulations... (between you and me, a few extra bucks wouldn't hurt, either...)
