Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale

One of the things we pride ourselves on at Seattle's Duck Island Ale House  is our beer selections, both on tap and in bottles.  Yes, we only have 27 beer selections on tap and The Taphouse has 140 something, but we believe we source only the best – really good, high end, sometimes hard to find beers – IPA’s, Stout’s, a Pale Ale or two.  Either way, we deliver great beer.  We also have great bottled beers, and a lot of them, including this one:  Monk’s Café Flemish Sour Ale which Beer Advocaters rate a worthy 87, out of a massive 1,639 ratings.  A great rating for a great beer!  They actually don’t qualify it as “great”…they qualify it as “very good”, but we won’t split hairs.  If the flavor doesn't make this beer great in your book, the $4.75 price tag certainly will.

Some notes on this high quality beer you can try at Duck Island anytime.

Taste: Mildy tart sour ale. Light bodied with a lactic/sour nose and a bit of sweet and sour in the finish. Very refreshing!

Style: Flemmish Red/Brown Belgian Ale.
Brewed in Philadelphia, for Monk’s Café.  It’s “Oud Bruin” in style which is a traditional blend of young and old beers.  It pours a “dark and bubbly amber brown”

Check out a very cool video at the bottom of this page here:

A little trivia - Monk’s Café is also the name of the fictional coffee shop in Seinfeld.

Cheers!

Arrested Development Sunday's @ the Duck!

For fans of Arrested Development this Sunday marks a long, long awaited occasion.  Netflix is finally releasing the 4th season of this brilliantly written, critically acclaimed comedy.  With a large fan base that has continued to grow over the years, despite the show being cancelled 2/3rd of the way through it's 3rd season in 2006, we can all finally see what the Bluth family has been up to.

The season will be a slightly different format, consisting of 15 episodes with each episode predominantly focusing on one member of the Bluth family and what they have been doing since 2006. The first episode will revolve around Michael who will be the only character to appear in all 15 episodes. Each episode will leave the character in a predicament that will reportedly be solved in an upcoming movie.

This show is hysterical, witty, wry and goofy.  It is really fun to watch in a group.  We will be showing 2 of the new episodes every Sunday @ 6pm, with 1-2 old episodes of the show, starting from the beginning, so you can fall in love... for the first time or all over again.  Even if you can't help watching them all at once at home, come out and watch them again in a group of fellow fans.  Comedy is meant to be shared with friends, and a cold beer or cocktail just adds to the fun.
Cheers!

Updates to our Restaurant & Bar

Duck Island Ale House Bar is yes...drum roll please...open to the public, and we have been for a long time.  There seems to be some confusion out there with the great news that we have in fact updated and remodeled our bar, and shall we say, our restaurant!  Yes, we still deliver food over from Beth's Cafe which we're happy to do, especially late at night.  But we're also working with our new menu and doing our own food at Duck Island Ale House.  It's going to be super good!  Stay tuned...

We have our recipe down for our House Duck Island Chicken!  You'll have to come in and try our new, signature chicken dish!  We'll always experiment with different spices and sauces, but we'll always have our fall back signature Chicken.

Our new Chef is Rick!  He's awesome!  He's even got his own little following as well.  He's developing a really good menu.  We're all excited about it!

And no, this is not the wonderful Jackie.  This is another person - a person you don't know - who is helping with updates and information to all that is Duck Island Ale House in Seattle, WA.  We're pushing for some major changes and improvements, so why not talk about it?  We'll keep you posted here.
